- TBTatiana· January 7th, 2025Gardens and Galleries of Japan - 20/11/2024 - 03/12/2024 David B ..........From our arrival in Tokyo to our departure 15 days later, our OOMI guides were charming, thoughtful and informative. We seven travellers fitted well together, all being genuinely interested in all we saw, heard about, and ate. The hotels were outstandingly hospitable and the incredible kindness and enthusiasm of our guides, led by the incomparable Mika added much to our travels. In a fascinating and faultless itinerary OOMI exposed us to gardens, museums, precincts and architecture. I am an artist and made sketches and six watercolours along the way. I also took over 1000 photographs which, once ruthlessly edited, I intend to self-publish in a book. To be accompanied by the more developed paintings based on a theme of water being developed here in my Devonport Studio, New Zealand. Tanya B I would like to add my own impressions of our magical fourteen days tour, accompanied by five delightful travelling companions and led by the charming Mika and her team of guides. We appreciated the flexibility shown by the guides. They were able to monitor the size of the crowd at a designated site. If it was very busy then there was always for us an equally beautiful temple, garden or shrine where we were not overcrowded. As I read my daily pencilled notes I wonder at the remarkable variety of Temples, Shrines and Galleries we saw. We appreciated learning the mind-stilling rituals associated with the Zen Buddhist Temples and Shinto Shrines. We particularly liked tracing a Sutra before entering the ravishing moss garden of the Saihoji Temple in Kyoto. Thanks to the well planned transportation and hospitality, we found that everything was in place to make things as easy as possible for us, thus allowing us to concentrate on the fascinating history and culture of Japan. What a beautiful country Japan is with It's magnificent forests, coastline and islands. Even a huge city such as Tokyo was astonishingly quiet, and clean, with pools of peace in the many gardens found between tall and often handsome tower blocks - this was especially noticeable for me, having lived in New York and London. Our hotels were well chosen. We loved the contrast between the Park Tower, the ultra modern Benesse House, the traditional Matsue Ryokan and finally the exquisite garden of the Chinzanso. The variety of meals from formal Japanese, Italian/French/Japanese Fusion tasting menus to the mashed potato of Matsue's Irish pub were sensational feasts. The gracious and handsome people of Japan were a revelation, so respectful, thoughtful, considerate and generous. We delighted in their gentle humour. We consider that we have made some much valued friends. We recommend a small group OOMI tour to ensure that no time is wasted trying to plan the logistics of moving around in an unfamiliar spoken and written language. To effortlessly learn about Japan's history and culture, and experience the best hospitality we unreservedly recommend OOMI Travel. With our sincere thanks to everyone for making it such a splendidly memorable experience for us all. Happy New Year for 2025.Show moreOomi Travel commented on this reviewDear Tatiana, Thank you for your very detailed positive feedback. - AAnonymous· November 16th, 2018A brief feedback of our tour. Alison and I arrived late Saturday might and checked into our hotel - Chinzanso, the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff were courteous, helpful and very obliging, making us feel most welcome. Luxurious rooms and very nice meals. Next day, a free day for us, we went to Koishikawa Koraku Gardens as you suggested......very impressive. Our first taste of a Japanese Garden. We wandered round a bit and ended up going on the Rollercoaster....which was a pretty big deal for us 'oldies,it was pretty scary but good fun. We met Saori and the rest of the tour that night for dinner at the hotel which was very enjoyable. Next few days Junji and Saori showed us round, both are excellent guides whose company I really enjoyed. Saori showed us some places off the beaten track which was great.....she also has a very in depth knowledge of plants. Ryoko and Takako guided us through until the following Tuesday, both were outstanding considering the last minute changes that had to be made due to weather conditions. Very much appreciated still being able to visit the Moss Garden. Then a very pleasant bus journey to Matsue where Chisayo took over. The private van was great, a nice break from charging through train stations etc. The highlight of our tour for me was here at Adachi Musuem and Garden. This place is absolutely magnificent, I can't speak highly enough of the outstanding gardens. Then a pleasant flight back to Tokyo where we spent a night then off to Narita after lunch the following day. Our flights to and from Japan were Premium Evomony AirNz. The extra $$$ were worth it. Overall, I was very impressed with all our guides, the gardens were outstanding, temples and shrines were very interesting......especially learning all that history. I am a plantsperson with 30years in horticulture so I really appreciated the beautiful gardens. We were a wee bit early to see the full autumn colour, probably late November early December would be best. The Japanese people are kind, courteous, polite and very obliging....... Please pass on my thanks to the guides, they are all great.Show moreTrip date: September 2018
- AAlison· November 5th, 2018This tour company doesn’t deliver the advertised tour. There was no tour guide provided as advertised, just “garden”experts who picked us up at hotel each morning and dropped us off. We spent a lot of time on the subway and in our hotel. There was only one gallery on the entire trip. The group was 5 despite the company saying it would not run without at least 6 customers. The communication with them was awful, would not answer emails in a timely manner. The emergency phone was not answered when we were left stranded on our way to Matsue, the train had been stopped and despite being offered a refund on the extra night we had to pay for we have still not been reimbursed.Show moreTrip date: September 2018
