- Martin· December 22nd, 2023I posted my reviews on Google and trip advisor. But in short, it was amazing we enjoyed every moment of our trip. Truly the safari of a lifetime. Recommended by all means! Thanks again to all of you Richard! Martin and AndreeaMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewHello Martin, Thank you so much for taking time to post the review. - Lorenzo· July 21st, 2023my wife and I were on our honeymoon in Uganda referred by an italian agency. At the arrival at the airport we were immediately greeted warmly by Richard, the manager, and Allen and Samuel, who would be our guides. We spent 8 simply perfect days, accompanied by the tireless Samuel, who drove hours and hours with calm and patience, and by Allen who guided us through the wonders of Uganda. Their service was impeccable, maximum attention and availability. Maximum discretion in the moments when we were alone (it was still a honeymoon) and excellent company in the moments in common. A special commendation should also be made to Richard who proposes women guides in a sector that in Uganda is mostly run by men. In summary, if you plan a trip to Uganda, go with Mukisa Safari, they will make your experience unforgettable.Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewDear Lorenzo, Thank you so much for taking time to write this positive review about our service! - ACAlison· June 20th, 2023Our family travelled in Uganda with Mukisa Safaris for 6 days. We had limited time and wanted to fit in as much as we could. Richard catered to all of our wishes, and more. We did a a day safari where we saw 4 of the Big Five at very close quarters. We did Gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking, an afternoon in a traditional village, leaning so much from the inhabitants and having such fun with them. Lastly we did a city tour in Kampala. In all, I cannot praise Richard enough, he was so patient and diligent when we were planning the holiday. He answered every email promptly and with all the information that we required. He even catered for a fourth member of our family being added after it had all been booked. I cannot leave this review without mentioning our guide, Allen and our driver. Solomon. They went over and above to make sure that we got the most out of every experience. They were great fun and, by the time we left I felt that they had blended into our family group as one of us. We all felt very sad to be leaving them. In a nutshell, I cannot recommend this company enough.Show moreTrip date: June 2023
- Jill· September 11th, 2022I started saving to go to Africa with my first real job and paycheck (20 years ago). I always wanted to go to the Serengeti, but once the trip was becoming a reality, I decided I wanted more than safari's, and Uganda became the reality because it had so much more diversity and time out of the car. I didn't know anyone who has ever been to Uganda, so relied competely on reviews to decide our tour company. Mukisa didn't have any negative reviews anywhere, so decided to take the leap....and I am SOOO glad I did. Richard's comminication is extremely quick and clear. They are so accomodating and will modify any of the their tours with anything you want to do/change add. Our trip started out with delayed flights with 2 nights sleeping in airports. I was a mess and Richard help re-arrange the trip at the last minute to accomodate our 2-day delay in getting there. We split up one of the days activities into the other days, and he helped me figure out what was similar to cancel the other day. After we got there, everything was perfect! Our guide Giraffe was amazing (Giraffe is her nickname). She gave us so much more than what was on the tour. She was so open with the culture and answered all my questions giving such a full desciption of the people, customs and her own family. We couldn't believe how many animals we saw on the safaris, the river tour and how close we got to the mountain gorillas. We literally had to move out of the way when one of the gorillas changed directions and came right towards us and split our group. The places we stayed were extremely nice. They were all separate cabins that were very spatious, clean and had such beautiful settings. We were surprised that the main roads around the country were all paved and in very good conditions (although they have sooo many speedbumps). Let's talk about Giraffe and our driver Sam. Sam was quiet, but we got him to open up and he ended up adding humor to our trip. He was a very safe, curtious and helpful driver. Giraffe...what a confident, strong woman who takes care of everything. The moment you say you like, or don't like something, Giraffe is on it. I mentioned I liked mangos, and not only did we stop along side the road at a stand, but she found a mango tree and had someone climb it to throw some down that Sam cut up at lunch. I mentioned I loved giraffes, so on our walking safari, she had talked to the guide in advance and we were brought to a point where we were surrounded by them. She asked about our room the night before, and I mentioned the hot water didn't work very well. The next place, she had the hotel staff turn on the water and check to make sure it got hot when we got to the room. I mentioned it was our anniversary, and that night she had a special anniversary cake for us. My husband asked how they made the bricks used to make their some of their houses, and Giraffe had Sam pull over and found some people making bricks and had them show us. This continued with every question we had. She left nothing unanswered and I have never experienced such customer service ever, anywhere. We talked about anything and everything, learning from each other and became quite close by the end of the trip. I know I was nervous to go to a country that had a 3 safety rating by the US State Dept. Giraffe was key in making us feel safe all the time. She is so confident and sure of herself. I would not want to travel around Uganda by myself but I would easily take my kids or anyone else on a tour travelling with Mukisa. We did go to Kampala for an afternoon, and that feels a lot less safe. I still felt safe with Giraffe and Sam, but was definately less comfortable in the capital than the rest of the country. If you are nervous, I would recommend avoiding Kampala. Other notes for travelling to Uganda. They do take dollars, but I wouldn't recommend it. We took lots of smaller bills ($10s/$20s), but found out there that their banks only take newer money (with no writing, tears or bends). We tip for good service, and wanted whoever we were tipping to be able to easily use the money. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably only bring $100 US, and then just got Ugandan Shillings out of the ATM. ATM's are pretty easy to find, so we ended up getting Shillings and brought most of our US money back home. You are on the equator, so it will be hot, right....well surprisingly it was quite cool at night. During the day, most of the hikes should be done in pants and light long sleeves. There were only a few days where we needed shorts and tank tops. We ran out of long pants because they also get dirty on the hikes. We had plenty of shorts/short sleeves that never got worn. There were also way less mosquitos then I expected. One small spray can of deet spray would have been plenty for 10 or more days. Mukisa has wi-fi in the vans so we didn't use our cell service the whole trip. Surprisingly, they typically have cell service over most of the county. Most hotels have wi-fi in the main lobby, but not in most rooms. If you love to travel, love adventure, love learning about culture and want to support a company that supports women....pick Mukisa. You will not be disappointed.Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewDear Jill, Thank you for this wonderful review! We are humbled! - Katie· October 16th, 2019Jordan and I worked with Mukisa to create a bespoke, private tour in Uganda for 9 days this October. Based on one of their itineraries, we elected to visit Jinja for rafting, the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Richard emailed us back and forth when setting up the details of the trip. In the booking process, his recommendations for accommodations were excellent; the safari lodges were stayed at, particularly the one at Bwindi were stunning. We decided to book with Mukisa because they had received such excellent reviews and because of Richard's prompt, detailed and attentive communication. The trip lived up to all of our expectations. Joan, our guide, and John, our driver, made us so comfortable, informed and cared for, they felt like old friends by the end of the trip. They were knowledgable and caring, and we always thoughtful to stop on long drives so we could have a coffee and snack! I also want to note very few tour operators in Uganda that we spotted used female guides. Mukisa does and Joan was OUTSTANDING. I was thrilled to be able to support a LOCAL (i.e. Ugandan, not British) company that empowers WOMEN as our tour company. Yes, we saw the Big Five and the falls and the gorillas, but I also got a real sense of Ugandan people and culture (and food!) through my chats with Joan and John. For a safe, trustworthy company dedicated to exceptional safaris, book with Mukisa!Show moreMukisa Safaris Uganda commented on this reviewWe had such a wonderful time with you people!
